What I check before signing off an installation
A practical checklist I work through before putting my name to a new electrical installation.
- Electrical
- Installations
Signing off an installation means taking responsibility for it. Over the years I have built up a routine that I work through every time, however small the job.
The checklist
- Drawings match what is actually installed on site
- Protective devices are correctly rated and labelled
- Earthing and bonding are continuous and tested
- Insulation resistance and loop impedance results are recorded
- RCD trip times are within limits
- Cable routes, glands, and terminations are tidy and secure
- The client has the documentation they need to operate it safely
None of this is glamorous, but it is the difference between an installation that works on handover day and one that keeps working for years.
